Rug stretching and flattening services are done in-plant at CLEAN Choice Rug Cleaning & Restoration’s state-of-the-art facility in Maryland. Our master weaver will care for your area or Oriental rug as if it were his own.

We use a five-step process to stretch and flatten your rug and restore its former beauty:

1. Brushing – First, we brush the pile by hand to smooth and flatten it out.
2. Rolling – Then, we roll the rug up as tightly as possible to give it a chance to self-correct in some areas.
3. Flattening – We then iron the rug along the grain of its pile with a special iron to flatten it. We also flatten the corners with weights.
4. Stretching – Next, we stretch it on specially designed equipment. It takes patience to use just the right amount of tension and stretch the correct areas a little bit at a time.
5. Finishing touches – If the rug does not respond to stretching or flattening, we may have to resort to more permanent fixes. We may apply starch to the back of it or suggest a hand-woven repair to prevent future curling.
