Carpets 101: Cleaning Up Peanut Butter Stains

Posted on: August 7, 2012

Peanut butter is one of my favorite snacks to eat much like countless of people out there too. It is delicious and can be consumed in a number of ways. You can make a good old peanut butter and jelly sandwich, bake a peanut butter and oatmeal cookie, or simply use your fingers to scoop it straight out of the jar.

But while peanut butter can really put a big smile on a lot of people’s faces, it can also be the source of a lot of frowning if you accidentally smear it all over your carpet. Peanut butter stains are challenging to face and not all homeowners know exactly what to do in this situation.

If you are dealing with peanut butter stains on your carpet then you have come to the right place. Below is an easy-to-follow guide that you can use in cleaning up the peanut butter stains on your carpet.

• Scoop up all of the excess peanut butter on your carpet. Do this carefully as you don’t want to spread the mess further on the carpet. You can make use of a spoon or a blunt knife to get this done.
• After you have cleared the carpet of any excess peanut butter, pour a couple of drops of water on the peanut butter stain. This will help in diluting the stain and making it a lot easier to remove. Use a paper towel to blot the area until it is completely dry.
• Get some dishwashing liquid and some water which you will be needing to create a cleaning solution for the stain. Mix a teaspoon of the former with a cup of the latter and place the mixture inside an empty spray bottle.
• Bring the spray bottle to the carpet and spray the affected area a couple of times. Only use an adequate amount of the cleaning solution as using too much can cause residue to be left behind. Once you have applied the cleaning solution allow it to set for three minutes before moving on to the next step.
• Now you will need to get a piece of clean white cloth and blot the affected area again and again. This will help in removing the peanut butter stain on the carpet. Continue doing this step until you have eliminated the stain completely.
• For the last step, pour a cup of clean water onto the area you just cleaned and dry the area completely using a wet/dry vac. This step aids in removing excess residue which can be bad for your carpet.

“Clean Choice is the only way to go. I went through several companies before I found them. They do a fantastic job every time.”

“Clean Choice has cleaned the carpets in two of my houses and I have been amazed at how great they look. The carpets, both over 10 years old, look brand new. I was sure I was going to have to replace them but decided to try and have them cleaned first and I am so glad I did. Keith is extremely passionate about his job and very dedicated to providing the best service possible. I have already referred them to several of my friends and will continue to do so in the future.”
